Thinking About Our Timeshares

We are pretty happy we made the leap and sold our Diamond Timeshare. We were not terribly satisfied with the customer service anyway. Now we have a “Mexico” timeshare with many options plus we can always exchange, buy extra weeks at a reasonable price, or bank the points ahead. This will lend to our over all plan of going to Hawaii on “even” years and Mexico on “odd” years. Banking our time enables us to bring friends or family along when possible.  So we are feeling good about it.

Sadly-Cabo Cancelation

Sadly due to Hurricane Odile battering the Cabo area we are forced to cancel our trip. The first timeshare we were to stay in with our friends cannot accommodate us because of severe damage. We can cancel our reservation with Villa and not be charged at this point in time so that’s what we are doing.  Alaska Airlines is very accommodating as well and will change, rebook, or cancel with a full refund. We will just cancel at this point in time.  So now we have 2 weeks on the books for 2015 with Villa and we will decide what to do later on. Too bad, we are disappointed but we cannot control these things and must remain flexible.  Word has it, from the agent at Villa I spoke with, that Los Cabos International Airport will reopen on October 7. I feel very bad for the people in the Cabo area and the long lasting effects of the lack of tourism in the area.

Flights Are Booked

We booked our flights using some AMEX points and money of course. We will fly on Alaska Airlines out of San Diego on Nov. 1, 12:55pm and arrive in Cabo at 2:59pm. Our return flight is Nov. 15, 5:00pm and we arrive back to San Diego at 6:05pm.  We will have a few days in SD to look around and research our tentative move! We aren’t sure about renting a car in Cabo yet but we will finalize that thought and other details on our Panama Canal Cruise as we will be traveling with the same travel companions!

San Diego Stay…

We decided we would drive to San Diego and fly to Cabo from there, then spend a few days in San Diego upon our return to look around for areas we may want to rent. We’ve reserved an Airbnb room with Mia, a very sweet sounding Brasileira!  We haven’t figured out just where we will keep our car but we will probably go down the night before and get a hotel with free (inexpensive) parking for the duration of the time in Cabo.

Los Cabos & Cabo San Lucas

We had some issues with DRI (Diamond Resorts International) so we changed things around a little bit. We will still extend our stay another week but we will be at Villa del Palmar in Cabo San Lucas with our Villa points and fly home on November 15th. UNLESS we decide to fly in and out of San Diego, at which time we will peruse the area and see if we can decide on a local we like well enough to move there!

Another Reservation

Since we are already heading to Cabo Nov. 1-8, invited by friends, we have decided to increase our stay for an additional week at Cabo Azul Resort and Spa. We have these timeshare points we need to use up with Diamond Resorts and they are so difficult to use we are jumping at the vacancy here. Since we fly down we will just stay longer and enjoy the area.

Los Cabos

We will be joining our friends Stuart and Darlene in Los Cabos Nov. 1-8. Friends George and Tawny were invited for the trip as well. Looking forward to this as we have never actually stayed in the Cabo area, only visited by cruise ship. We will be staying at the Bel Air in Los Cabos, Mexico complements of Stuart and Darlene. It is very close to Cabo San Lucas. We will check our time share points and see if we can extend our stay a little bit.
